Darren Gipson Obituary

Darren Gipson, beloved son of the late Lanier Gipson, Sr. and Eveline Burgess Gipson, was born in Ashburn, Turner County, Georgia, on Friday, September 27, 1968, weighing in at 9 pounds 5.75 ounces. He was affectionately called “Papa Gip” by his children and grandchildren.
He matriculated through the Turner County school system . Upon graduating  from Turner County High School in 1986, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He was soon honorably discharged. In pursuit of a better life for he and his family, he decided to continue his education and enrolled in Darton College, now Albany State University, where he graduated on May 2, 2009 with a degree and certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
Darren accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at a very young age. He was a member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Darren had a brilliant mind and was multi-talented. He was a carpenter and could build anything. After his childhood home went up in flames, he rebuilt it from the ground up. He was a painter and a lawn maintenance engineer. He was a pressure washer and could clean anything.  He was a cook and could grill better than the best of them. He was the designated family grill master and fish fryer. He was a poet and could write a poem at the drop of a dime. He was a writer and dreamed of writing a novel one day. In the meantime, he had a day job where he fought fires with the Ashburn Fire Department from 2005 to 2018 and then subsequently the Irvin County Fire and EMS department in 2018. He also worked with Turner County EMS saving lives from 2009 to 2018 and subsequently joined HOPE EMS in 2018.
He loved helping others and giving back to the community. He was always working but he found time to play.  He enjoyed going to the beach and dipping his toes in the sand. His all-time favorite pastime was fishing. It was the one thing he could do to totally relax.  But what set Darren apart was his bright, infectious smile. He had a smile that could illuminate a room and brighten anyone’s day. He will be missed.
Darren transitioned on Saturday, August 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, Lanier Gipson, Sr.; brother, Timothy Gipson; brother-in-law Eddie Polk, Sr.; brother-in-law Antonio Holmes (Fatema); and brother-in-law Joe Rogers.
